From freelancers to co-operators: the power of co-ops and working together

In March 2015, Open Data Services was set up by four freelancers who wanted to help people publish and use open data. Nearly seven years later, we’ve grown to a team of 23 people working to make open data useful, usable and in use.

For us, working in a co-operative means we can share costs, resources, knowledge and expertise — all while building an organisation that’s sustainable, that we’re proud of, and that we own.

Last week, we joined forces with Co-operatives UK for Freelancers unite! The power of co-ops and joint working. Watch the webinar to hear Steven Flower discuss scaling our co-operative from 4 to 23 — and what we’ve learned along the way.
